Champaign Real Estate - on Fire!

Sadly, this story is not about the Champaign Real Estate market as much as it about a landmark that is currently burning. The Metropolitan building as it commonly known is located at the corner of Neil and Church is as I write this blog it is burning down. The second and third stories have just collapsed. The call for the fire was received at around 5:15 this morning. Currently there are about 19 trucks and countless numbers of firefighters trying to control the blaze. The local news channels are reporting that no one was in the building, that is certainly good news.
When I was passing by the blaze this morning at approximately 6:00 am., I thought I should get a couple of pictures. While I was taking the shots I spoke with one of the contractors who had done some work on the Metropolitan building for it’s remodel project. He explained that the owners were completely the building and it was full of lumber that they were using in the project. This will certainly not help the firefighters in their quest to extinguish it.
I am sorry for the rambling, however when you see something of this magnitude in your community your mind takes off. Champaign is a very resourceful community and will quickly turn a negative into a positive. Have a great day!
